The Tatler wrote:
"For proper, get-your-hair-messy-and-not-give-a-fig fun, it doesn't get much better than the Roundhouse. And golly, Save the Children's Night of Funk and Soul (hosted by Helena Bonham Carter, Tim Burton and Sir Alan Parker) was a hoot. Samantha Cameron, Joely Richardson and Ronnie Wood sat down to watch Ella Henderson, James Morrison and Beverley Knight perform but, with the music being that good, they didn't stay seated for long.“

The Daily Mail wrote:
“Taking guests on a musical journey back to the Funk and Soul era with some of the most danceable music ever written, the fantastic bill was presented by comedian and TV presenter Ross and included performances by contemporary artists Ella Henderson, James Morrison, Lemar and Beverley Knight.
Legends in the genre including Chic founder and legendary songwriter Nile Rodgers who collaborated with James Brown band leader Maceo Parker, and Average White Band frontman Hamish Stuart also played for the first time in history at the event.“
